The appeal aims to raise about $13,236 by Aug. 1, and organisers list roughly $257,659 in non-binding pledges so far. The Somerset Arms is on the market for around $522,729 and is said to be the village's only pub.

Why "Wales" appears on the donation

The use of "Wales" follows a royal naming tradition: children can use the basis of their parents' titles as a surname. William has used "Wales" in school and the military, and the name is also applied to his children, Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (11) and Prince Louis (8).
