Prince William quietly stepped in to back a tiny village pub campaign — but he did it under a less familiar name. Read on to discover the full story!
The Prince of Wales made a £1,000 (about $1,323) donation to the Semington Community Benefit Society to help reopen the Somerset Arms, which has been closed since 2023. The Crowdfunder shows a contribution made on June 16 from "William Wales," and the BBC reported the gesture on June 17. Local organisers had invited him to pull the first pint if the target was reached, and he accepted.
William also sent a letter stressing that pubs are a "lifeline" for rural communities, saying he looked forward to coming down to pull a pint and celebrate success. He previously visited the community-led Prince of Peckham on June 3, tried his hand at the bar and quipped "Not bad."
